George Washington Gardens
In 1999, George Washington Memorial Gardens were planted all across America in cooperation with the Mount Vernon Ladies Association to honor the Father of our country on the occasion of the Bicentennial of his death. A yearlong series of events, creating over 200 gardens, took place among schools, clubs, and civic groups across the country.
The gardens were planted with red, white, and blue American Spirit flower seeds, donated by the Page Seed Company, and a mix of heritage flower seeds such as those George Washington would have grown, donated by Thompson & Morgan.

Washington designed the landscape, including the garden, trees and bowling green that surround his stately home and numerous outbuildings.
