40 Years of Service and Dedication
The America the Beautiful Fund was born of a desire to preserve our national heritage by assisting community-level programs and projects to save the natural and man-made environment and improve the quality of life. The America the Beautiful Fund now provides support and direction to volunteer community projects in all 50 states, operating as a clearing house of ideas for thousands of community projects and as a catalyst for new ones, drawing 40 years of experience, knowing what works and what does not work.
Started in 1965 as a national, non-profit organization, America the Beautiful Fund has developed more than 50,000 citizen-initiated volunteer projects. These programs were supported through America the Beautiful Fund’s Operation Green Plant, Rediscover America, Artists for the Environment and American Landscapes programs.
For its accomplishments, America the Beautiful Fund has received the Take Pride in America Award from the United States Department of Interior, the New York City Housing Authority Community Service Award, the Holiday Magazine award, a Special Commendation for Excellence from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Good Housekeeping list of the Top Ten Volunteer Organization in America, the Subaru of America award for Making A Difference in America, and the Gulf Oil National Conservation award
